MORNING & EVENING JOURNAL · DECISION COMPANION

Find your balance. Choose wisely.

Write a few lines each morning and evening, and think through important decisions one calm step at a time. Evenwise connects the two, so you can see your own patterns.

SCROLL THROUGH A DAY

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Take one breath with us.

Four seconds in, four seconds out, as the ring of stardust opens and gathers. It's the first thing you see in Evenwise, and before a hard decision it breathes with you for 30 seconds, so you can settle before you think.

MORNING · THREE MINUTES

Set a direction in the morning.

Three things you're grateful for, today's intention, and who you want to be. The same few questions every day, simple enough to keep going. Write your intention as "If…, then I'll…", so it comes back to you at the right moment.

WHEN YOU'RE TORN

Five steps to think it through.

  1. 定FOCUS
  2. 靜CALM
  3. 安EASE
  4. 慮REFLECT
  5. 得CHOOSE

Dìng · Focus on the real question

We often get stuck because we haven't named what we're deciding. Start by writing it as one sentence.

What happens if you do nothing?

Jìng · Calm: notice your feelings

Feelings aren't wrong, but they can quietly push a decision. Hungry and tired? Maybe come back tomorrow.

How do you feel about this right now?

Ān · Ease: check what you value

Come back to what matters to you, and see whether this choice points toward the person you want to be.

What do you care about here?

Lǜ · Reflect on your options

The upside, the cost, and what you'd give up. You can even score each option against your values.

What would you give up by choosing this?

Dé · Choose, then look back

Write down your choice and why. A few weeks later, Evenwise reminds you to look back: did it turn out the way you expected?

What did you choose, and why?

Know where you stand, and your mind finds focus. With focus comes calm. With calm comes ease. At ease, you can think clearly. Thinking clearly, you choose well.Adapted from The Great Learning

LIFE'S CHOICES, BIG AND SMALL

From a new job to this weekend.

Work, love, family, money: eight areas of life, and Evenwise thinks each one through with you.

EVENING · LOOK BACK

At night, see where the day took you.

Good little moments, a look back at your intention, one thing to let go of. Only after you finish does a reflection appear, like a curious friend asking what you noticed. While you write, it stays out of the way.

Reflection after writing

Small moments of being cared for often carry a whole day. When your focus slipped, you remembered to get up and walk. That's your intention at work.

AFTER YOU WRITE

Every entry lights a lamp.

Lamps from around the world: a sky lantern from Pingxi, a krathong from Thailand, an ice lantern from Finland… Each one joins your shelf. The shelf only fills up; it never resets because you missed a few days.

Tap a lamp to light it.

Write a wish and let it drift up into the night.
